Biggest Bed!!

Hey everyone,
Well the bush isn’t quite as bush as I thought. It is a fairly large city but it is in the middle of no where. I am enjoying and doing my best though. I love the area and my new companion from Nigeria is awesome. We will do many miracles in the 2 branches we are working in.
Well you might be wondering why I am in 2 areas now. Well the time when 8 elders got sent home at different times is why. The last 6 out of 7 elders in these areas were sent home. I have soo much work to do to catch everything back up. There is so much crap they didn’t do and I have over 20 people who were all baptized and we cant find them. Crappy elders have given me a ton of work. But I love to work and so does my companion.
The trip out to Bo wasn’t bad at all. I got to ride with elder burns in president squires new ford everest. the other elders were in the ranger. it was paved for part of the way but most the way was very dusty dirt road. the trip took like 5 hours and now that I am here I am excited for the opportunity to work hard and do my best. the work is so sweet and I am already loving the people.
Since I am in 2 branches I now get to attend 6 hours of church each week. Messima and new barracks branch both meet in a nice rented building. the sacrament room is outside under a carport type thing. it is nice though and I helped install the PA system on Friday. It is nice and the people like to speak Kriol and mende in church too much. Mende is the local tribe that most people are out here and they speak it well. I am working on it small and I can say hi and how are you and a few small things. My krio is getting better and I can understand most the time. ha ha
My companion is named elder echi-aboli from Nigeria. I love him and we will do great here. we both have the desire to work hard and we will do great. he even let me have the big bed. It is half decent and my feet don’t hang over the edge anymore.
Well all is well and I love my areas and my work here. Thank you for all that you all do and I love you all.

Packing my bags and going to the bush

ha ha well the first news is that God answers prayers and I am going out to the bush known as the town of Bo. it’s pronounced the same as bow. no it doesn’t stink that bad. ha ha funny guys. well the place is nice and the computers are supposed to be slow. it is a 5 hour drive from town and I get to ride in the mission car at least this time so it shouldn’t be too bad. my new companion is from Nigeria and is named elder Echi-Aboli. I traveled with him from Liberia on the packet of gum plane. we are both big and tough so it should be fun. he likes to work out a lot so maybe he can remotivate me to be active again. we will see.
This week was good. I and my old companion started to actually get along and enjoy our time more. today we went for super preparation day to the nicest beach in Sierra Leone. It was awesome and we were playing football in the nice clean sand while the Lebanese people watched us. it was really fun and I enjoyed it.
Well the work is sweet and I am doing well. I love to work hard and I will really miss wellington. I don’t like only being in an area for 6 weeks. Mostly cause I hate packing my bags again. But the lord knows where I am needed and my mission president is most definitely following his counsel for this place so I am grateful for the chance to serve. The work will go onward and I get to ride in the mission van for 5 hours on Friday. It is supposed to be colder out there and the computers are supposed to suck so we will see about the blog emails. Keep writing I love to hear from all of you and thanks for everything.
I love all of you!

FYI: Bo is out in the ‘bush’. Bo is the second largest city in Sierra Leone but it is a bit ‘rustic’. He should be able to see some more wildlife. Bo is where the missionaries were having problems and they are short handed there. He said that he is going to the Sewa Road Apartment where 6 missionaries live. He will be over two areas for now = Messima and New Barracks. Because he will be over two areas, he gets to go to Church two times every Sunday.

Snake is nice???

Amy Lyner,
Wow I miss you a lot…I am going to the bush. ha ha well it is really bush. I am excited though cause there isn’t a lot of people there. I am doing good and working hard. it is fun and I am sad to leave this nice area but the lord needs me another place. It should be a nice place and I know I will like the area...I will do my best. I hope that you are having a good time. monkey doesn’t taste bad if you cook it nice. snake is really nice. dog sucks and so does snail. the food is getting used to me I guess and I don’t get sick at all any more.
well I have to go now. I love you!!

Just another day in paradise...

Hey everyone,
Well another interesting week. First my deepest sympathys to one of my best friends family. From what I heard his older brother died on Wednesday and I feel for them. But I know that they are strong and that he is with Joseph smith right now. I know that everything will be ok.
Well another sabbath day with no spirit has passed me by. sometimes I feel angry at how little respect the people have for the lord’s day. last week a man started taking photos during a mans testimony. it is sad to see how far off track we are here. well I am doing my best and gave a very nice talk in sacrament meeting about the sabbath day. I gently urged the people into coming on time and started the wave in the small pool. the branch president has caught on now and is working to make things better. I like the guy he is trying hard to make the branch better just like me.
Well my companion is my companion still so I have to love him. Really funny story. One of our sisters went on a mission on Friday. From the farewell she gave I could tell she didn’t really care. But we were informed that she was just sent back from the mtc when she failed the pregnancy test. Not only once but 3 times!! So she came back to Freetown and Sister Squires gave her another one. Aparently she failed that one too. The mother is great and loves to feed us so maybe we will lose another fm to the cruel victims of racism. The mother blames the church and the church says she can’t serve. Just another day in paradise.
Well that’s all for this week. Always remember that after this life we go to a much better place where we are doing better things and with better people. I give my sympathys to my friend and his great family.

Pictures from Liberia

This is Elder Lamb and Elder Mogotsi. Elder Lamb said "It's a wagon thing they use to move everything since cars are to expensive. i have seen a house moved on one of those things."
This is Elder Lamb and Mana Wilson. This is the little girl that was starving and needed an operation, but her family had no money for it. Elder Lamb and his companion were prompted to leave the family a bag of rice. They then were able to afford her operation. Unfortunately he said that they only came to Church two times after that.

This is Elder Lamb with Sister Folly, Portia Folly. and Cherish Spenser Folly is the baby boy. They named the baby after Spencer - but spelled it wrong - oh well! He said that it is an African thing to have your baby's first name "Hope" "Faith" "Cherish"

Patience is a virtue...right?

hey everyone,
this week has been fun you could say. the spirit isnt here and my companion hates me cause i wont let him turn in numbers that are incorrect. great combo i know. so i just study my book of mormon and pray a lot. he likes to now sleep all day and the work is slightly hindered which really makes me upset that someone would be so stubborn to hurt the work. owell his agency.
we have been finding the real desire of some of our investigators. apparently the last missionary gave out some money sometimes and that is why people were accepting lessons. so we are in a tight spot with that one also.
sacrament meeting is a joke here. everyone will come for the beggining of the year but not for any other time. we had record attendance this week but last week record low. people are funny and think they will be saved for repenting once a year but the sad truth is they never will. ha ha then a man started taking photos in sacrament meeting for money. i almost snapped his camera in half. but i kept my calm and talked with him after the meeting. he tried to chastise me for not letting him do it. i just laughed and walked him in to see the branch president. people can be so dumb. owell.
well i am doing my best and getting a little muscle from the weight bench we have. i can curl what elder rogers benches by the way. ha ha just and insight. but we are doing great and i love living with elder rogers. i hate the music outside. especially on new years when it never stopped. but all is well.
sorry no pics this week. i am on the crappy computer today.

Happy New Year!!!

hey everyone,
well this has been a crazy year. a lot has gone by and a lot has been done. like traveling on a little boat in the middle of the ocean and chopping snakes in some members house. i love everything that i have done and looking back i wouldnt trade many of the decisions i made.
i am doing great here in sierra leone. my mom says that i have a funny accent now and that i talk even more funny than before. which is hard when you are from spanish fork. anyways. it was amazing to hear from my family and to have thier encouraging voices. you never know how much you can miss someones voice. it is much different from reading emails or texts.
the work is once again great. my companion and i had a small confusion but everything is fine now. we have a lot of people to teach and never enough time to do it. they people here are really funny sometimes and i am having a great time serving them.
one thing i was thinking about that my mom sent to me. the line is "obedience is happiness." as i was pondering this i thought to my self how relaxed and happy i was when i knew that everything i am doing is right. well almost everything. it brings a peace to our minds knowing that you are safe from wrong and other things. it is a feeling of warmth that jesus and god are pleased with you. i love this thought. when we are obedient god is happy with us. what else matters in the world except for that?
just a thought for your new year and your resolutions. set goals that will make you stretch and keep checking up on them. dont just let it end in february like you normally do. set a goal for eternity. not a year.
