Return of the Snake Killer!!

Hey everyone,
I hope that you all had a sweet week. Mine was amazing. I added 4 notches to the belt this week. Now I have to explain.
The first notch was that the snake killer elder lamb is back. Only this time the thing was FREAKIN HUGE!!! I was very afraid this time as me and my companion were watching a bunch of people next to the swamp lighting a pile of garbage on fire. Totally normal except for all the people. So we asked and found out that there was a snake in the pile. So I grabbed a bunch of big rocks as my companion grabbed a huge stick. The snake eventually came out. Now I swear on my life that this thing was at least 8 feet long. When it came out I actually hit it with a rock and stunned it while my companion then ran up and beat the life out of the thing. To bad that I had no batteries that worked in my fetchin camera!!!!! I was not happy that my trophy was unable to be shown to you but owell I have the vivid memory in my journal at least.
The other 3 notches were an amazing baptism on Saturday. It was so perfect. The water truck showed up right before the baptism to fill up the font and there was even enough water and everything. Well after that the people actually came on time and we had many people attend. A lot of our great investigators were there to learn what a real baptism is like. It was perfect and all went well.
Sunday was the same old hectic schedule for me and I finally got the primary cd so that the children don’t have to listen to me sing it they can use a cd player instead. They are so smart and learn so well. They will be great. We had some fun when I found my investigator teaching elders quorum the 116 lost pages. He did better than the normal teacher but still.
As I was studying this week I found a bunch of good random scriptures for all of you. First my favorite to use for less active people. John 6:53. We must take the sacrament to have the Holy Ghost for the week. He can’t be there if you don’t.D&C 123:15-17, we all have a small part that makes a huge difference. Everyone is important in the church. No calling is better or worse than any other and the prophet himself will receive the same glory as the rest of us faithful ones. Kinda huge to think about huh.2 kings 5. This chapter helps us to understand the importance of following the prophet no matter how we hear him or what he says to do. We just do it.Well I hope you all benefited from my studies I have shared with you. Another exciting week in the bush of Bo.

Christmas in February

Hey everyone,
Well this weeks lemonade is about to pay off big time on Saturday. We have 3 baptisms planned and I am super excited. We are working with 2 families and we are converting them all. We have 4 more people after this baptism who will make both families complete. I am so excited to finally have a good thing come. I also contacted the golden man. He is lost in the world of fake churches and wants to find the true church. He loved the restoration and I am so excited to keep teaching him. I know he will be baptized some day.
Well the work is getting sweet. The lemons just weren’t being used by the last elders and now they are making some sweet lemonade. My studies this week have led me to find one comforting thing about satan. Now we all know that he cannot read our thoughts he can only tempt us by our actions. But what happens when we overcome our actions or temptations and choose what is right? Luke 4:13 explains how Jesus overcame his temptations and then he left him for a season. So we come to learn when he is defeated that he runs away like a dog with his tail between his legs. It gives a nice comfort to know that for a small season you can feel the peace on joy of being obedient and resisting his temptation. But when we give in he uses our first thing as a catalyst and launches himself to new heights. He does it slowly to and the water just keeps getting hotter until we are a cooked frog.
Well just an insight I had for you this week.
One funny thing that happened this week was we were looking for a less active man who was baptized by the last elders. We went to the house and everyone said he is not there. We walked around the corner to leave. I had a small prompting to go back. I convinced my companion and as we came back around the corner he was standing there. He then ran and jumped out the back window. So we took it as he doesn’t want us to come back. So we keep playing hide and seek with these people who just got thrown in the water for no reason. It is sad but we are doing our best to teach them. they have their agency and we must also respect that. it can make a sad day to see the less actives you see not at church. But how great the joy when you get at least one back like we did this week. Iit makes all the work worth it.
The primary classes from both branches are learning the song Book of Mormon stories and they both have the first verse after only 2 weeks of me teaching them. They are so cute and love it when i give out sweets -aka candy to them. It is fun and makes church a blast for 6 hours every Sunday.
My hands started peeling for some reason and I don’t really know why. After i got a rash from some crazy plant I am allergic to the skin just started coming off this week. But when I brooked (washed) my clothes today all the dead skin just came off and now they are fine and smooth like a babys bottom. ha ha just a random thought I had.
One thing I want all of you to get is a movie called 'pioneers of Africa'. it is a great movie and explains all about how the church came to be here and in Ghana and Nigeria and things. It will help you understand my language when I come home also. ha ha
Well all is well and I encourage all of you to study your Book of Mormon it will bless your life just like it has done to mine and so many others I have shared it with.

Making lemonade out of lemons

Hey everyone,
Well things have been great this week. It’s not the situation you are in but what you do with it that makes life good or not. So I am doing great then.
Me and my companion are getting along great and we work so well together. I love to come home exhausted and feel like sleeping at 8. ha ha. The people we have are some good and some need work. One recent convert I met had no idea what the book of mormon was and didn’t know who Joseph Smith is. I only had to teach her 5 times in a row until she got it. I have come to realize that I can only change the future and not the past. So we have people that need a lot of help. Its my job to help them and I love to do it. My favorite thing is to teach the primary class. Sunday we worked on the song book of mormon stories in one branch. it was great and they love to learn from the pumwee. aka white man in the local dialect. ha ha
One story I would like to share comes from mark 12:41-44. we were visiting one old member named granny. She doesn’t even know her own name. It’s granny now. Well we went to share a message with her. I took her book of mormon and was just flipping through. I have seen some interesting things inside. But I couldn’t help but notice her tithing slip for 2000 leones. aka 66 cents. she then sent her grandson to fetch me and my companion each her favorite drink. sprite. which costs 3000 leones for both. She gave her all for us just to have a warm sprite. It was the best thing I have ever tasted. I was truly touched by her effort to do so much for us. She didn’t need to buy us anything, but the people are so willing to help us and to feed us.
One story on the other side of the board.
We had a branch president and missionary meeting. I don’t know where the idea came from, but the missionaries give a report of the good and bad of each branch. Everything was fine and the other elders got up and gave their reports. All the improvements were taken into consideration and all was well. Then I had my chance. I was the last to go. My first 2 suggestions were great and went well, then I dropped the bomb. I said we are working on zion here and we need to have unity in language, this church is not for the krios or mendes or timnes only. It was as if I had stuck a cattle prong into a hornets nest. The district president let me have it about how I would learn the krio and mende and that it was fine to say it in church. I just sat there laughing in my head. I am not the first nor will I be the last to try and fix this huge problem. The leaders don’t accept that it needs to change and I don’t know how long it will take to get done, but I am working on it and smiling cause some day it will change.
All is well and I am doing so well. Thank you all for the support and I love to get letters.

Happy 20th Birthday!!

Hey everyone,
Well first off I am now 20 years old. 2nd I love my companion to death and he is almost as good as elder Mogotsi. We get along great and we both love to work hard. This is needed.
Now I need to explain why it is needed. This story probably isn’t something you would ever hear from a missionary and I don’t think I will give all the dirty details.
To start you need to understand that I am a 6 hour drive away from any leadership, like my mission president or the couples. There is no check ups for a long time. Because of this there were some bad elders here. As in 7 that got sent home for doing bad things. 4 had been in either of the 2 areas I cover now. Because 7 elders got sent home they had to combine certain places because we are short on elders now. The reasons why they were sent home are disgusting and will make you sick. - They broke the law of chastity and had children not gifts to bring home from the mission field.
So me and my companion are both here now. We are both very obedient and we know how the church needs to be. The leaders of both branches and the district were in support of the previous elders and think that a mission is all about enjoying - which it is to too many elders here. So they all pretty much hate us. They are all very far from where the church needs to be and they need a lot of work to bring them back. We are going to start with serving the leaders in an attempt to gain at least a little trust. So far it is starting to work. Things are changing and the same mistake will never be made here again.
The list is endless of things that need to change at the church. Lets say the relief society just decided to skip class on Sunday and leave.
Yup NO relief society this week. I finally had to put my foot down and let the branch president have it. He took it well and I gave it to him soft for now. We will see what he does. I haven’t even started in the other branch, which is worse.
But I love the work here. We get a fresh start on the areas. Mostly because the investigators were "in" with the previous elders. They were mostly girls and they are all former investigators now. So we are finding new people to teach and working our hardest. We don’t have many lessons a day but we always come home exhausted. I love it though. We work so hard we don’t even want to write in our journals but we force ourselves to.
The work is sweet and things are looking up though. The lord has a great need for me here and I will never let him down. I will be "always faithful" as one of my great leaders here once taught me.
Things are getting better and I have great faith that they will only get better here.

PS –
hey I have a few scriptures I want everyone to study.
Jacob 2. -- For you who are married or planning to be.
Jacob 4:3 -- do we really learn with joy?
